It’s that time of the year. Don’t forget to maintain your fire system before freezing temperatures to avoid potential water damage. Here are 4 simple precautionary measures:

  • For wet-pipe fire sprinkler systems, make sure the entire building is getting adequate heat. Turn on any heaters in vestibules and mechanical rooms that may be used seasonally.
  • If you have a facility or areas of a facility that are not frequently visited, have your alarm contractor install a low temperature alarm to warn you if the inside temperature drops due to a heating issue.
  • If your facility is equipped with a dry-pipe fire sprinkler system, it is important to ensure that all low point drains and drum drips are drained of all water. This is to prevent build up of water back into the cold space where a pipe can burst due to freezing.
  • Make sure all dry system compressor tanks are drained of any water and filled with oil.

If your facility has staff trained to perform these service, please make sure that this is done prior to the systems being subject to freezing temperatures. If your staff is not trained to do this, we would be happy to help perform this maintenance, or train your staff.
